Venous
Ultrasounds

A venous ultrasound evaluates the blood flow of your legs or arms to check for blood clots in the deep and superficial systems.  If you are having swelling or pain in the leg, your doctor may order an ultrasound to check for deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

If you have varicose veins or are going for varicose vein treatment your doctor may request an exam to rule out blood clots before the treatment. They may also ask for an ultrasound to map the leg veins before harvesting it for bypass surgery.
